Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Receives incoming requests including opening mail, assisting walk-ins and telephone inquiries, and retrieving facsimile inquiries. Date stamps all requests and highlights pertinent data to facilitate processing. Validates requests and authorizations for release of medical information according to established procedures. Completes release of information requests including retrieving patient?s medical chart and returning chart, copying/scanning medical record accurately and correctly, according to requests, established procedures, and established standards of quality and productivity; and mails copies or electronically delivers medical record. Performs quality checks on all work to assure accuracy of the release, confidentiality, and proper invoicing. Maintain equipment in excellent operating condition (inside and out) and troubleshoot equipment issues with assistance from the Help Desk department. Provides excellent customer service by being attentive and respectful; insures understanding of customer request and follows-through as promised; and being proactive in identifying client concerns, or problems. For GS-5 level:  (a) Experience.  In addition to the basic requirements, at least 1 year of experience at the next lower grade level, OR (b) Education.  Successful completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major field of study in medical record technology/health information technology or a related degree with courses related to medical record technology sufficient to evidence the core competencies identified.  GENERAL EXPERIENCE is experience that has provided (a) knowledge of clerical procedures that would be helpful in developing skill in medical record technician work or (b) background knowledge of the medical environment or hospital procedures.  SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE must have included the analysis of medical records for completeness, consistency and compliance with requirements.  The required amount of experience and education will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position.
