We are seeking advanced level coders. The Coder is responsible for reviewing inpatient/outpatient records using the ICD-9-CM and CPT coding systems. Must be detail oriented to accurately determine codes for billing, data retrieval and research. A computerized system is used for on-line abstracting and APC/DRG assignment. To succeed must have 3+ years experience with ICD-9-CM and CPT codes. May be required to lift and carry records weighing approximately 20 pounds. May involve some bending, stooping or climbing. EDUCATION / REQUIREMENTS: High School graduate with knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology with a minimum of 3+ years coding experience. Must be able to interpret clinical information for assignment of codes for consideration. Best qualified candidates would be degreed in Health Information Management and have certification as a CCS or be registered as a Health Information Technician or Health Information Administrator. Candidates without certification will not be considered. Experience using a computerized abstracting system required. Strict attention to accuracy required. Must be proficient in ICD-9-CM and CPT coding. Must be able to work in a stressful environment where variable work load must be completed within prescribed time frames using fixed resources.
