Senior Records Technician

General Description

The purpose of this job is to provide primary clerical support maintaining confidential records and files. This position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Receives, checks, collates, sorts, records, indexes and files arrest, accident, offense and related police reports and records; codes reports, and otherwise prepares source documents for entry into computerized records system and for microfilming; may enter information from source documents into a computerized records system by operation of an alpha-numeric computer terminal.
  • Research computerized and manual filing systems to obtain information, and copies documents for use in investigations and court prosecutions.
  • Receives and greets visitors and answers telephone calls; provides information and assistance; refers to appropriate personnel.
  • Processes a variety of special and regular reports.
  • Conducts a variety of general office duties, including preparing correspondence and receipt of deliveries.
  • Serves as department liaison with traffic crash data and traffic crash site.
  • Handles a variety of confidential matter regarding crime data and other related reports.
  • Performs related work as required.

Physical Demands:

  • Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Requires the ability to become certified in:
    • DCI, NCAWARE, CJLEADS
  • Requires Notary Public.
  • Must possess and maintain an appropriate, valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of clerical support, records management, filing or related work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
