Medical Office Administration Adjunct Instructor

The primary purpose of this position is to plan, develop, and teach Medical Office Administration courses delivered online through the College's learning management system. The adjunct instructor prepares students for the healthcare workforce by providing instruction aligned with current medical office practices, industry standards, and evolving technologies. The position supports student success through effective course design, timely feedback, accurate academic records, and participation in assessment activities aligned with program and College outcomes.

This position will start in fall of 2026.

  • Teach assigned Medical Office Administration courses in an online learning environment using the College's learning management system.

  • Maintain appropriate academic credentials and professional qualifications required to teach Medical Office Administration coursework.

  • Demonstrate current knowledge of medical office practices, healthcare systems, and related technologies.

  • Prepare and deliver course content in alignment with approved curricula, course objectives, and program learning outcomes.

  • Align instruction with current workforce expectations, healthcare regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Evaluate, grade, and provide timely, constructive feedback on student assignments and assessments.

  • Maintain accurate records related to attendance, grades, and student learning outcomes in accordance with College policies.

  • Communicate regularly with students and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

  • Participate in assessment, data collection, and documentation related to program and student learning outcomes as required.

  • Market, recruit, and retain students in Medical Office Administration programs.

  • Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all College, NC Community College System, and applicable state and federal policies and procedures.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in advisory committee meetings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

Required: Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Medical Office Administration, Healthcare Management, or a closely related discipline.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Medical Office Administration, Healthcare Management, or a closely related discipline. Industry certifications in medical office administration, healthcare administration, billing, or coding are preferred. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is preferred.

Experience:Applicants must possess verifiable, relevant professional experience in a medical office or healthcare-related setting and/or demonstrated instructional experience. A minimum of two (2) years of recent professional experience in Medical Office Administration, healthcare administration, or a closely related field is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Strong understanding of medical office procedures, medical terminology, electronic health records (EHRs), and healthcare documentation workflows. Knowledge of patient communication, scheduling, billing, and compliance standards within healthcare settings. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required, along with a commitment to professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, learning management systems, email, and other web-based instructional technologies commonly used in online education is expected.Physical Demands: The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
