JOB TITLE: Medical Office Clerk
GOVERNMENT AGENCY & LOCATION:
81st Medical Group
Keesler Air Force Base, MS
JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Office Clerk provides administrative support in wards, clinics, and other departments of the 81 Medical Group, Keesler AFB, MS. Medical Office Clerks normal duty hours will be 0730 hrs - 1630 hrs, Monday through Friday. Work hours may be modified by the Medical Specialties Flight Commander to correspond with the needs of the department, not to exceed 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. Work hours could range from 0600 hrs. - 1800 hrs., coordinated with the MSS personnel 2 weeks in advance, to accommodate special patient care needs or in the circumstance different shifts need to be created.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A fully qualified typist with a minimum of 50 WPM is required.
General medical ethics, telephone etiquette, and excellent communication and customer service skills.
General office administrative and clerical skills to perform receptionist duties and answer telephones.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Greets patients and visitors at a front desk, information center, or office setting.
Answers main office phone line. Directs telephone calls to the appropriate section for assistance. Takes messages as required.
Arrange and schedule medical appointments and determine patient eligibility for services.
Schedule appointments, relay general instructions to patients, or make referrals to other sections.
Obtains updates and files medical records as needed.
Organizes and researches patient records, extracts needed information, and reviews records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency within established guidelines.
Ensures arrival of medical records prior to appointment(s).
Initiates and locates patient medical records as needed.
Obtains documentation as requested by healthcare providers (test results, or documentation not yet filed in records).
Performs other administrative and clerical duties in support of medical care and operational support.
Creates appointment schedules and templates in patient appointment computer system.
Conducts end-of-day process at close of business and resolves any delinquent or pending appointments in computer system.
Coordinates with Group Practice Managers regarding appointment template management and makes changes, as necessary.
Attends access to care meetings monthly.
Attends safety huddles and reports on any foreseen patient safety issues. Monitors, tracks, and reports open encounters.
Member will assist with the administrative duties assigned with Coronavirus Disease testing and vaccine administration as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalency
Medical terminology knowledge is required
Shall maintain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
At least 6 months of experience in a medical office setting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work is primarily sedentary. However, there may be some physical demand. Requirements include prolonged walking, standing, sitting, or bending.
POSITION TIMING: Immediate hire upon completion of all background and security investigations.
