Health Information Management/Medical Records Manager

Under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer, the incumbent will plan and direct site operations of the Medical Records/Health Information Management Department. Plan for system design and improvement and develop compliance plans to ensure compliance with applicable standards laws and regulations.

Essential Duties:

  • Develops relevant policies and procedures.

  • Required to oversee the HIM Department functions (legal medical record, record completion, release of information) for multiple locations.

  • The HIM Manager collaborates with Information Technology and other departments in the development of electronic content, data standards and completeness of documentation that ensures the integrity of the medical record.

  • Must plan, develop, and implement systems and processes to ensure delivery of efficient and effective services that meet the clinical and business needs at WCHC.

  • Supervises the work and employees of the Medical Records Department.

  • Analyzes systems and makes recommendations for improvement.

  • Implements medical records conversion projects.

  • Implements medical records storage project.

  • Answers or arranges for a subordinate to answer court subpoenas to produce medical records and other medical correspondence as required.

  • Represents the department at meetings as required.

  • Prepares monthly statistical reports.

  • Provide relevant in-service education to departmental staff.

  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities.

  • Order supplies and maintain inventories.

  • Rotates between Health Center sites as directed.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.

  • Masters preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and managerial skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Working knowledge of EHR systems.

  • Thorough knowledge of Health Information Management standards and requirements.

  • Knowledge of applicable laws.

  • RHIA with two (2) years' experience at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with professional and non-professional personnel; Ability to supervise the work of staff, good judgement, tact, initiative, and resourcefulness.
