Accredited Records Technician Jobs

An Accredited Records Technician in the medical administration industry plays a crucial role in managing and organizing health information data. Their responsibilities include ensuring the quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security of both paper and electronic systems. They categorize patient information for insurance reimbursement purposes, databases and registries, and to maintain patients' medical and treatment histories. They also use classification systems to code and categorize patient information for purposes such as reimbursement by insurance companies and databases.

Essential skills for this role include attention to detail, integrity, analytical skills, technical skills, and interpersonal skills. They should be proficient in medical terminology, coding, compliance, and other related software. They need to be certified by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) after passing the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) examination. Prior to becoming an Accredited Records Technician, an individual may have roles such as Medical Records Clerk, Health Information Technician, or Medical Coding Specialist.
